Join us this week for Sunday school at 9:45 and worship at 11am! We'll share the Lord’s Supper with one another and hear from the Gospel of John 10: 1-10. In this lesson, Jesus likens himself to a shepherd and says he came to show his sheep the way to verdant pastures and abundant life. The question that awaits us all is: Do we know the voice of the Good Shepherd, can we differentiate the voice of the Good Shepherd from the symphony of other voices that bombard our lives?
Join us for worship this week. It's Palm Sunday! The Presbyterian Bell Choir will be chiming. We will read from the gospel according to Matthew (21: 1-11).
We’ve been journeying with Jesus throughout this Lenten season and on Sunday our journey will finally reach its destination: Jerusalem. On Palm Sunday Jesus arrives at the Holy City and is greeted by much pomp and circumstance. Amongst all the fanfare, however, Jesus comes riding on a donkey, thus symbolizing his humility and meekness. He makes his entry into Jerusalem not wielding an attitude of domination and control, but, ironically, wielding the attitude of a servant. We might call him here the Servant Savior. Like his scandalous entry onto the world scene, Jesus enters Jerusalem in a way that seems humiliating. The question that awaits us all is: “Who is this man Jesus?" The crowd lauded him as a King, others said he was a prophet, a week later the crowd deemed him below a criminal; who do you say Jesus is?
John van de Laar says, “Then, as now, the crowds ask who this is. Then as now the answer lies not in the frameworks of power and dominance, but in the mysterious, gentle influence of meekness and love – which, in the end, is what the powerful fear the most, because they cannot control it.”
